The Back Roads of American Debt

Day 7 — Monday, November 10, 2003

Huntsville, TX to San Antonio, TX
239 miles

Having a few problems with my turn signals and front running lights, so I arranged to meet up with a fellow BMW K1200 owner who offered to take a look at it for me. Turns out that Greg and his two buddies Dick and Monte are three of the nicest fellas you could ever hope to meet. What's more, they had my electrical problems fixed in no time and sent me back on the road refusing to take any money for their help. Thanks, guys. You give bikers a good name and restore my faith in the goodness and generosity of people.

After interviewing Greg (who had me in stitches with his straightforward, no-nonsense advice about money), we headed into San Antonio. This will be the first "big" town we've stayed in, as all the other hotels were little more than anonymous rooms on the side of the interstate. I'm looking forward to taking a stroll on the famous River Walk. Maybe we'll get to speak to a few people there. . .
