Big SuperBowl Fun - Party For Less

Myvesta conducting nationwide search for inexpensive recipes and entertaining ideas

For Immediate Release: January 22, 2004

ROCKVILLE, Md. — As a big party day, SuperBowl Sunday kicks off the year with hard-hitting football and belt-bulging snacks. People beef up their living rooms with extra chairs, pack coolers with ice and throw diets out the window in anticipation of good competition and good food. But while the suspense of the game may have you on your knees, the cost of putting together a party can have you praying you win the office pool.

"Everyone wants to have a holiday get-together or dinner party with friends, but the cost of entertaining can really add up," said Pam Rhode, president of Myvesta, a nonprofit consumer education organization. "Many people feel that they can't have their friends or family over because it's too expensive. Nothing could be further from the truth."

Myvesta has launched a new section of its Web site dedicated to inexpensive recipes and entertaining ideas. Currently the section features recipes for a SuperBowl party including taco dip, pickle roll ups, homemade boursin cheese and Big Game Chili. The organization is looking for recipes and ideas for other events to be submitted from people across the United States. Each person whose recipe or idea is selected will receive a free "Debt Sucks" bumper sticker and their name will be posted alongside their recipe on the Web site.

"As different holidays and events come up over the next year, our Web site will be featuring the best ideas for inexpensive entertaining submitted from people across the country," Rhode said. "From Valentines Day to kids' birthday parties, we'll be covering it all."
